F2C.NET Privacy Statement

Last Updated 26th April 2002

The Far2Cool Network - otherwise known as F2C.NET is one of those sites run by gamers for gamers, yes I'm sure you've heard that before - but it's true. We don't run this site for a profit, all F2C.NET staff are simply volunteers working to provide a worthwhile service to you gamers.

As a direct result of this we do not share any information that we collect from you with irrelevant 3rd parties. Following on from this is a brief description of the data we actually collect from you, how we do it and how it is currently used (if at all);

Cookies

Like many sites we use two types of 'cookie' to hold information on you during and between your visits to our sites. What is a 'cookie'? A cookie is a very small text file which is stored on your computer, it can never grow bigger than 4 kilobytes in size, and can only be accessed by the website which originally created it. They are split into two main types, these two types are based on their expiration date;

  • Session Cookies - Each time you visit any site on F2C.NET a temporary cookie is written to your computer, the temporary nature of this cookie arises when you close down your web browser (this can be Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, etc...) at that point the cookie is removed from your system. Its purpose is to track your 'session' whilst visiting the website. This enables us to see how long each of your visits to our site have been, whether you remained on the website for 2 minutes or 20 minutes - this information cannot easily be tracked back to you as the only tangible link is the unique IP address.
  • Permanent Cookies - You will have no-doubt seen the 'Log-In' module on the pages of F2C.NET, indeed you may have already logged in and are gaining the benefits which this provides! In order to simplify the process of automatically logging you into the web site on each return visit we store your personal log-in information in an encrypted cookie on your computer. This is a permanent cookie and as a result of this you will be automatically logged into the site on each return visit - until you decide to click the log-out button and remove this cookie.

Logging

As with any website on the internet we are interested in knowing how popular the website is, what pages get viewed and how frequently, who are the most frequent visitors, where they come from geographically and what brought them to the site in the first instance either a search engine or website link elsewhere.

We store identical sets of this information in two places;

  • IIS Logging - A feature of our web-server (the machine that sends these web-pages to you) is that it can track all the above information and store them in a readable format, which can then be parsed and analysed to provide graphical and/or statistical information. F2C.NET does use these logging capabilities.
  • SQL Logging - Similarly to the above text-file logging facilities, here at F2C.NET we also use a database to store exactly the same information. Once again this is used to determine in a non-personal way who is visiting what page and from where they came, we do record the remote IP address of the requesting proxy/network/computer, this is something that all major sites do.
